U.S. Senate Backs Amendment to Block Federal Reserve CBDC Issuance Until 2030

The U.S. Senate voted 89–10 to add an amendment to a housing bill that would prevent the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency or any alternative version until 2030. The measure, which must still be approved by the House of Representatives before becoming law, marks a shift in digital dollar policy by freezing any U.S. CBDC path through the end of the decade. Senator Ted Cruz had pushed for a permanent prohibition on a Federal Reserve digital dollar, but that broader ban did not pass in the Senate vote.
