U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C. Freezes or Seizes Over $580M in Crypto Linked to Southeast Asia Pig Butchering Schemes
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C. announced its newly created Scam Center Strike Force has frozen or seized more than $580 million in crypto assets allegedly tied to pig butchering fraud networks operating in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. The schemes are accused of using social engineering tactics to persuade victims to purchase cryptocurrencies and transfer funds into fraudulent investment platforms.
