Apple is facing a lawsuit in California after three users claimed they lost roughly $1.8 million in Bitcoin to a counterfeit wallet app listed on the App Store.
The complaint, filed July 24, alleges the app posed as "Sparrow Wallet", prompted victims to enter their seed phrases, then transferred the funds to attacker-controlled addresses. Sparrow Wallet is a desktop-only product and has never released an iOS version, making any App Store listing using its name fraudulent, the plaintiffs argue.
The filing also claims Apple promoted the impersonating app by placing it in curated crypto collections. Reported losses ranged from 1.05 BTC to 7.4 BTC, occurring over mid-2025.
According to the complaint, Sparrow's developer previously reported a similar fake in January 2024 and later says Apple moved to terminate his account after he attempted to warn users. Apple said it removed the impersonating apps and closed the associated developer accounts.
