BitMEX to Cease Operations on Sept. 23 After Sale Talks Fall Through
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
BitMEX's announced shutdown on Sep 23, with registrations halted and new positions banned from Aug 26 alongside forced liquidations, is a negative signal for crypto market structure. While BitMEX is no longer the dominant perpetuals venue, the wind-down can reduce derivatives liquidity and potentially trigger short-term dislocations as remaining positions are closed or migrated. The closure also highlights persistent regulatory and consolidation pressures across exchanges.

BitMEX, the crypto derivatives exchange founded by Arthur Hayes, said it will shut down on Sept. 23 at 04:00 UTC. The platform has already stopped accepting new user registrations. From Aug. 26, it will no longer allow traders to open new positions, and will begin a phased process of forced liquidations.
Widely credited as an early pioneer of perpetual futures, BitMEX later came under U.S. regulatory scrutiny, after which Hayes gradually stepped back from day-to-day involvement. The exchange has explored potential acquisition deals in recent years but has not been able to secure a sale.
