El Salvador's bitcoin reserve faces an election test as February vote nears
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
El Salvador's ~7,730 BTC reserve (~$502M) is entering an election cycle where policy continuity looks likely given Bukele's strong polling and weak opposition representation. Neither major challenger has outlined a Bitcoin stance, reducing near-term political tail risk but keeping uncertainty around future accumulation. The IMF's claim that reported increases may reflect internal wallet transfers rather than fresh purchases could temper perceptions of ongoing sovereign bid support.

El Salvador is heading into February's election with its national bitcoin reserve in focus. The government's public tracker shows holdings of about 7,730 bitcoin:native, valued at roughly $502 million with Bitcoin at $64,916.
The ballot will determine whether the country continues to add to the stockpile. Opposition party ARENA has named former lawmaker Maytee Iraheta and Verónica Henríquez on what it says is its first all-female ticket. The FMLN is running physician and union leader Rafael Aguirre with Madai Santos. Neither party has released a specific Bitcoin policy.
Seat counts and polling suggest continuity. ARENA holds two of 84 seats in the legislature, while the FMLN has held none since 2024. President Nayib Bukele, nominated this month for a term running to 2033, is polling above 80%.
The pace of reserve growth remains disputed. Under its $1.4 billion facility, the IMF has said reported increases reflect transfers between state wallets rather than fresh market purchases.
