Google indexed shared Anthropic Claude chats, potentially exposing sensitive data

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Anthropic's Claude shared pages were indexed by search engines, exposing sensitive user data including crypto seed phrases and suspected SSNs, due to missing noindex tags despite robots.txt blocks. While a fix is in place and Google removals have begun, the incident elevates operational, reputational, and regulatory risk for AI platforms handling enterprise workflows, and may pressure near-term sentiment across AI-adjacent equities and partners reliant on Claude-based tools.

Odaily Planet Daily reported that on July 25 a Reddit user found hundreds of Claude conversations fully viewable via Google searches using "site:claude.ai/share". The shared chats contained potentially sensitive material, including cryptocurrency wallet seed phrases, suspected U.S. Social Security numbers, and legal discussions. The exposure stemmed from Anthropic not adding a noindex meta tag to Claude's shared pages. While its robots.txt blocked crawling of shared Claude URLs, Google was still able to index the pages when share links appeared on public websites. The same indexing issue also affected Claude's public artifacts such as apps, dashboards, and financial tools created by users. Search results previously surfaced salary spreadsheets with employee names, internal customer relationship management chat exports, and unreleased product roadmaps. On July 26, after Anthropic updated its configuration and added the noindex tag, Google began removing Claude-related results. Bing continues to show some shared links. A GitHub repository has archived 453 Claude conversations and 519 Grok conversations, totaling 11,241 plaintext messages.
