SEC Fast-Tracks Approval of NYSE Arca Rule Update for Commodity-Based Trust Shares

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
The SEC's accelerated approval of NYSE Arca listing-standard changes expands the regulatory pathway for commodity-based trusts to hold up to 15% in digital assets and introduces a "digital commodities" definition. Removing the passive-management requirement enables actively managed strategies, potentially broadening product design and institutional participation. While 85% must remain in eligible commodity-related holdings, the rule change strengthens market infrastructure and could lift near-term sentiment across major crypto assets.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has granted accelerated approval for NYSE Arca's Amendment No. 1 (SRNYSEArca202642) to its general listing standards for Commodity-Based Trust Shares, according to a July 31 notice in the Federal Register cited by ChainThink. The rule update covers trust products holding digital assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP, along with traditional commodities including gold. It allows up to 15% of a trust's net asset value to be invested in digital assets or in securities that do not fully satisfy current eligibility requirements. The amendment also adds a definition of "digital commodities" and eliminates the existing requirement that these products be passively managed, opening the door to actively managed strategies. NYSE Arca said at least 85% of a trust's net asset value must remain in commodities, commodity-related assets and securities that meet current eligibility criteria. For actively managed products, NYSE Arca is also proposing additional firewall measures to prevent misuse of material nonpublic information, as well as related trading-halt mechanisms.
