Taiwan’s civil aviation regulator said international flight fuel surcharges will rise from Aug. 9, with short-haul routes increasing to US$30 from US$27.50 and long-haul routes to US$78.00 from US$71.50. The adjustment follows CPC Corp.’s update showing its reference price for international aviation fuel at US$147.57 per barrel this month, up from US$133.29 last month, according to the Civil Aviation Administration. The surcharges are set under a tiered mechanism linked to CPC’s monthly reference price and apply well above the US$40 per barrel threshold. Market estimates put fuel at about 40% of airlines’ operating costs.
