Semirara seeks court order to stop DOE from sharing mine data ahead of July 2027 contract expiry

Semirara Mining & Power Corp., the Philippines’ largest coal producer, has filed a petition in a Makati court to block the Department of Energy from disclosing its proprietary geological studies and a detailed inventory of equipment to prospective bidders. The company says the information and technical assets tied to its Semirara Island operations are protected under its existing contract, as the government prepares to auction ten coal blocks before the contract expires in July 2027. Semirara warned that the Acacia mine relies on continuous pumping to prevent flooding, and that a shutdown could render the mine inoperable and potentially wipe out roughly half of the island’s recoverable coal reserves. The company said the court action will not affect day-to-day operations.
