South Korea’s Kospi drops more than 5% after record 18% jump, led by chipmakers

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
South Korea's Kospi fell over 5% after a record 18% rebound, driven by renewed selling in dominant chip heavyweights and volatility linked to single-stock leveraged ETFs. The move highlights concentrated index risk and forced deleveraging dynamics that can overwhelm fundamentals in the near term. Policy attempts to curb leveraged products may reduce tail risk but uncertainty around remaining leverage keeps short-term trading conditions unstable.

South Korea’s Kospi tumbled more than 5% on Monday after posting a record 18% gain in the previous session, ending at 6,257. The slide was driven by roughly 8% declines in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which together account for more than half of the index, alongside selling pressure amplified by leveraged ETF-related volatility. The benchmark is still up 45% in 2026 so far, but it has fallen more than 33% from its June peak of 9,386.
