Optimism to End opgeth and opprogram Support on May 31, 2026, Shifts Development to opreth
Optimism announced on March 5 it will discontinue support for opgeth and opprogram on May 31, 2026, while providing security patches and critical vulnerability fixes until that date. New feature development, including the upcoming Karst hard fork, will occur exclusively on opreth, and the fault proof program for opprogram will migrate to konaclient, with existing deployments expected to function normally until the Karst upgrade. Chain operators must complete migration by the Karst hard fork or face opgeth-based chains losing ability to track the main chain, while cannonkona can run in current opnode setups without requiring konanode, which remains optional. Node operators are advised to transition to opreth as soon as possible to maintain network compatibility and receive support for new features.
