SEC and CFTC Sign MoU on March 11 to Coordinate Oversight and Clarify Rules for U.S. Financial and Crypto Markets
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding on March 11 to establish a joint framework for collaboration aimed at supporting lawful innovation, strengthening market integrity, and protecting investors and customers. Under the agreement, the agencies will align key regulatory definitions, coordinate oversight, and enable secure data sharing through a newly formed Joint Harmonization Initiative that will coordinate policymaking, examinations, and enforcement in areas of shared jurisdiction. Priorities include clarifying product definitions through joint rulemakings, modernizing clearing and margin frameworks, easing compliance for dually registered entities, and providing a fit-for-purpose regulatory framework for crypto assets and emerging technologies, with Robert Teply of the SEC and Meghan Tente of the CFTC named as co-leads.
