U.S. Senate housing bill sets 2030 expiry on Federal Reserve retail CBDC ban

On March 2, the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act introduced by Senators Tim Scott and Elizabeth Warren advanced in the U.S. Senate with an 84–6 procedural vote. The 303-page bill, backed by the White House for its housing reforms, also amends the Federal Reserve Act to block the Fed from issuing a retail CBDC or similar digital asset until December 31, 2030.
