BitBox Releases 'Dixence' Firmware v9.26.5 to Patch Critical BitBox02 Security Vulnerabilities

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
BitBox released BitBox02 firmware v9.26.5 to patch critical bootloader and memory-corruption vulnerabilities that could enable malicious firmware installs under phishing/hostile-computer scenarios; a separate silent-payments edge case could be abused to lock funds. No exploitation has been observed, and newer Nova/Bitcoin-only variants are largely unaffected. The update reduces self-custody operational risk but may briefly elevate security-driven caution among hardware-wallet users.

Zurich-based hardware wallet manufacturer BitBox released the 'Dixence' firmware update (v9.26.5) this week to address several critical security vulnerabilities discovered during an internal audit. According to the company, the most severe flaw involves the BitBox02 bootloader, which could theoretically allow attackers to load rogue firmware via a phishing-induced malicious application. A separate high-severity memory-corruption bug affects the BitBox02 Multi edition prior to initialization. While BitBox reports no evidence of exploitation or stolen funds, the firm urges immediate updates, citing a broader trend of hardware-wallet exploits, including a 2026 Coldcard breach that resulted in a $130 million loss. The audit utilized frontier AI models to identify these risks. BitBox02 Nova and Bitcoin-only editions remain unaffected by these specific vulnerabilities.
