Bitcoin entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano told CNBC on Tuesday that Bitcoin's subdued year-end price action and reduced volatility make a 70%–80% drawdown in the first quarter of next year unlikely. While Bitcoin trades around $87,436 and is down 7.39% from Jan. 1, he highlighted its gains of about 100% over two years and nearly 300% over three years, even as some analysts now warn of potential declines toward $60,000–$65,000 by 2026.

Bitcoin is trading around $87,450, with daily turnover near $42.5 bn. Market gauges show the Fear and Greed Index at 29 and the Altcoin Season Index at 17, pointing to a Bitcoin-led phase. Technically, buyers have defended $84,500–$85,000 as price compresses between the 50-EMA near $88,200 and the 100-EMA around $88,850.

Bitcoin is trading around the $87,000–$88,000 zone after a sharp drop from levels above $110,000, while repeatedly failing to reclaim the $90,000 mark. At the same time, gold and silver prices are advancing as investors rotate toward defensive assets, leaving Bitcoin stuck in a consolidation phase with weakening short-term momentum and cautious market sentiment.

During BlackRock's Q3 2025 results discussion, CEO Larry Fink described Bitcoin as one of the year's biggest investment opportunities, highlighting the firm's focus on digital assets. BlackRock's IBIT spot Bitcoin ETF has attracted about $25 billion in inflows, even as it recently saw over $100 million in value decline across several December trading days while Bitcoin traded near $88,000.

On 23 December 2025, Bitcoin underperformed even as global M2 rose from about $104 trillion to more than $115 trillion over the past year. After an October peak near $126,000, it has struggled to hold above $90,000, while December ETF flows were uneven with several outflow days.

On Tuesday, BTC slipped 2% and struggled to hold $88,000, while Alphractal said total on-chain fees are at their lowest since January 2011. CryptoQuant flagged positive miner transfer spikes to Binance on December 11, 17, and 19, hinting at selling intent. Analyst Mr Wall Street reported a long filled at $84,550, targeting $98,000–$104,000, but still sees $64,000–$70,000 in 2026.

In a Monday statement, the IMF's mission chief for El Salvador said government officials are in advanced negotiations to sell the state-run Chivo Bitcoin wallet, as part of a broader Bitcoin project under discussion. The sale talks follow a May loan agreement for $1.4 billion, including a $120 million disbursement in 2024 and terms under which the government would stop buying Bitcoin and scale back its role in BTC-related activities.

Bitcoin is trading in a compression phase below major resistance, with price caught between a descending trendline and support near the $82K–$84K zone. On lower timeframes, repeated failures around the $89K–$90K region and a declining taker buy–sell ratio point to persistent sell-side pressure. Unless BTC can close above its main trendline or reclaim $90K, the structure leans toward continued consolidation or further downside.
