ARK Invest, led by Cathie Wood, executed its first Coinbase sale of 2026 by offloading 119,236 COIN shares worth about $17.4 million after the stock fell roughly 37% year-to-date. Around the same time, the firm bought 716,030 Bullish shares for approximately $17.8 million, reflecting a notable portfolio shift as crypto markets retreat.

On Tuesday, spot Bitcoin ETFs posted $272 million in net outflows, pulling assets under management below $100 billion for the first time since April 2025, according to SoSoValue. Bitcoin fell under $74,000 and the crypto market cap declined from $3.11 trillion to $2.64 trillion over the past week, per CoinGecko, while Ether-, XRP- and Solana-linked ETFs saw $14 million, $19.6 million and $1.2 million in inflows.

ING Germany, the retail arm of ING Group, is broadening crypto investment access by listing Bitwise crypto ETPs and VanEck crypto ETNs that track Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP and other major tokens. From February, clients can trade Bitwise products on Xetra with no execution fees on orders from 1,000 euros and also use them in fee-free savings plans, while VanEck offers 10 single-asset and two basket ETNs.

On Monday, Strategy said in a US SEC filing that it bought 855 BTC for $75.3 million last week at an average $87,974 per coin. Bitcoin opened the week above $87,700, touched $90,000, then briefly slipped under $75,000 on Sunday, per CoinGecko, moving below the company's $76,052 average cost for the first time since late 2023.

CoinShares reported on Monday that crypto exchange-traded products saw $1.7 billion in outflows for the week, the second straight decline that brought two-week redemptions to $3.43 billion. Year-to-date flows turned negative by $1 billion. Bitcoin funds led withdrawals with $1.32 billion, while Ether products saw $308 million exit.

On Thursday, cryptocurrency investment funds saw significant redemptions as total crypto market capitalization fell about 6% and nearly $1 billion exited Bitcoin and Ether products. Spot Bitcoin ETFs alone recorded $817.9 million in single-day outflows, contributing to roughly $1.1 billion in net redemptions so far in January and turning monthly flows negative. Ether and XRP products also posted sizable outflows, while broader risk-off sentiment tied to tariff concerns, tech stock weakness and high leverage unwinds added pressure across digital assets.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, Swiss cryptocurrency banking group Sygnum reported that its market-neutral BTC Alpha Fund delivered an annualized return of 8.9%. Launched in October 2025, the fund attracted more than 750 Bitcoin from professional and institutional investors within four months and targets steady BTC-denominated yields through arbitrage and relative-value strategies on centralized exchanges.

As spot gold climbed to a record $5,311 per ounce on Wednesday, Tether increased its physical bullion reserves to about 130 metric tons while also backing its XAUt token with separate holdings. At the same time, Coinbase has been spotlighting its support for gold and other metal futures trading as Bitcoin stays below $90,000 and trails the metal's performance.

Strategy bought 2,932 BTC for $264.1 million last week amid a market sell-off, taking its holdings to 712,647 BTC. The purchases averaged $90,061 per coin, and Bitcoin briefly fell below $87,000 during the period. January additions stand at about 40,100 BTC, surpassing August–December 2025 totals.
