SEBI to roll out 20-minute Closing Auction Session from Aug. 3, 2026, replacing 30-minute VWAP close
India’s Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said exchanges will adopt a new Closing Auction Session (CAS) from Aug. 3, 2026, replacing the current 30-minute VWAP-based closing mechanism. The 20-minute CAS will run from 15:15 to 15:35 and is designed to produce a single equilibrium closing price to improve fairness and price discovery. The change is intended to curb “marking the close” and strengthen settlement protection for retail and passive investors. The rule will apply to constituents of domestic equity indices and related derivatives contracts.
