The affected package averages more than 822,000 weekly npm downloads and includes an obfuscated 80 KB payload that can steal cloud credentials and .env secrets and exfiltrate them via DNS tunneling.

THORChain (RUNE) was exploited on May 15, with losses exceeding $10 million across Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Base. More than 36.75 BTC (over $3 million) and $3.54 million in ETH were reported lost, while the attacker reportedly consolidated assets by swapping tokens into ETH and sending them to one wallet.
