EU moves toward countervailing duties on Chinese plug-in hybrids within weeks
The European Commission is preparing to impose countervailing duties on plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) imported from China in the coming weeks. The plan would extend the EU’s trade barriers beyond battery electric vehicles (BEVs), which have faced additional tariffs since October 31, 2024. PHEVs currently face only the standard 10% import tariff, while BEVs are subject to manufacturer-specific add-on rates of 17% to 35.3%, according to Handelsblatt.
