India says E20 fuel use will not void motor insurance; exempts E22–E30 petrol from central excise duty

India’s government said using E20 fuel will not lead to motor insurance claim rejections, and dismissed viral posts alleging otherwise. It also said higher ethanol-blended petrol variants—E22, E25, E27 and E30—will be exempt from central excise duty to accelerate the rollout of higher blends. The move is part of a longer-term push to reduce reliance on imported crude oil, which accounts for about 85% of India’s needs, and may add to expectations of structurally weaker demand for refined fuels.
