Google adopts Nvidia-style financing and direct TPU sales to expand its AI chip business
Google is moving to commercialize its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) using tactics similar to Nvidia’s, including financial guarantees for data centers and so-called circular financing. It has also announced plans to sell TPUs directly and introduced an inference-focused TPU, alongside a $5 billion venture with Blackstone to build cloud infrastructure. Citadel Securities said it can run key workloads at a 30% lower cost and up to four times as fast with TPUs. Google has also said it plans to raise $85 billion in equity to support AI infrastructure expansion.
