Meta begins unwinding $2 billion Manus acquisition after China orders reversal

Meta Platforms is dismantling its $2 billion acquisition of Beijing-founded AI startup Manus after China’s National Development and Reform Commission ordered the transaction reversed in April 2026 under its foreign investment security review process. Meta has put a data firewall in place, barred Manus staff from accessing internal systems, and prohibited employees from using Manus tools for internal projects. The company has also begun sunsetting the Manus platform and moving existing work onto Meta systems, a shift that coincided with a slight dip in META shares. Analysts say the company’s $1.44 trillion market capitalization and cash generation leave its broader AI infrastructure plans—such as an India data center partnership and an AMD GPU deal—intact.
